Who’s behind it
MEC Crew is breakers, DJs and organizers working for and with the community: decades on the floor between them, battling, judging, teaching and building events. Breaking, DJing, hosting, teaching, visual art: they live the elements, and still show up for the cypher for the love of hip hop culture, breaking and building future generations.
Piecez (Michael Prosserman): breaking since 1999, Piecez has judged battles and taught workshops across Canada, Europe and Asia, from the Canadian Arctic to Japan and Hong Kong. He’s won 26 international breaking competitions, serves as a certified Breaking Judge and Head Judge with the World DanceSport Federation, and has judged the World Games and the WDSF World Breaking Championships. He’s also the founder of Unity Charity, a national organization using hip hop to support youth mental health that’s reached over 250,000 youth across Canada, and the bestselling author of Building Unity.
Boobjester (Roberto Veruela Jr.): repping Winnipeg since 1994, Boobjester’s musicality and finesse have earned him respect across the Canadian breaking scene as a member of Dangerous Goods Crew, Maximum Efficiency Crew and the Wintor Massiv Artist Collective. He’s organized major events including Red Bull BC One Canada and Red Bull Dance Your Style, received the Absolute Canadian B-boy Award in 2008, and is a certified World DanceSport Federation judge. He now serves as National Program Director at Unity Charity, delivering hip hop programming in northern communities and youth correctional facilities across Canada.
B Bad (Andel James): a b-boy since 1999 before picking up DJing in 2010, B Bad blends hip hop, R&B, funk, breaks and soul into sets built for battles and cyphers. He’s performed at Red Bull BC One, Freestyle Session, Breaking Canada and The Notorious I.B.E., and has worked with youth through Unity Charity since 2007. A member of Maximum Efficiency Crew and the Wintor Massiv collective, he founded the 2U4U collective in 2017 to bring dancers and musicians together around hip hop culture.
Switch B (Adrian Bernard): repping Floor Assassins Militia and Maximum Efficiency Crew, Switch B has 20+ years of competitive experience and more than 50 competition wins, including Skillz-O-Meter 5 in 2015. He represented Canada internationally after winning The B-Boy Unit Canada qualifier, competed in Seoul, and served as the Canadian Olympic breaking color commentator with CBC during the 2024 Summer Olympics. In 2019 he co-created The Breaking Draft, a concept battle event held in Toronto and Vancouver.
MEDÊIO (Rei Misiri): originally from Tirana, Albania, MEDÊIO came up as a breaker in the Canadian scene, winning 15+ first-place titles and representing Canada at events like the Notorious IBE in the Netherlands, before transitioning into calligraphy and visual art. He remains active in the breaking community as a judge, panelist and mentor at events across Canada, including Yukon Cypher Fest. His visual art practice has taken him to New York, Miami, Zurich, Barcelona and Los Angeles, working with brands like Bloomingdale’s, Porsche and Samsung.
